113-benches in Kerkrade invite conversation

Plaques with the text "A good conversation starts with really seeing someone" were attached to several benches in the municipality of Kerkrade last month. This is part of a campaign by 113 suicide prevention. The so-called 1K Z1E J3 benches (I see you) are intended to make talking about suicidal thoughts easier and to raise awareness about this topic.

Behind every picture is a special story. Stories that inspire, motivate and help break the taboo. Scanning the QR code takes you to the website of 113 Suicide Prevention. There you can read stories of people who have had suicidal thoughts and learn how to start the conversation with people thinking about suicide.

Because of the taboo on suicide, it is little talked about, while a conversation can be enormously relieving and the beginning of a solution. Everyone can have such a conversation, it is exciting but not difficult. The benches provide the space for this conversation, in which you really see someone. Because to really see each other, you need time. A moment of rest. To look at each other and explore what you need and how you can help each other.

The initiative for the benches came from a Kerkrade resident and was picked up and embraced by the college. 1K Z1Ej3 is a campaign from the 113 Suicide Prevention Foundation, the national suicide prevention organization. Their mission is a country where no one dies lonely and distraught by suicide.
