Employment

You work for Kerkrade and its residents. That includes good terms of employment. The terms of employment at the municipality are governed by the Municipalities collective bargaining agreement and our own Personnel Manual. 

Salary

You will receive a good salary. The amount depends on the severity of the position, your knowledge and experience. Each position is linked to a salary scale. With normal to good performance, you will receive an annual periodic salary increase until the maximum of the scale is reached. Do you not yet have the right knowledge and experience for the position? Then you start in a scale lower than the job scale: the preliminary scale. And if you have so much knowledge and experience, we still have the option of placing you immediately in a scale higher than the job scale: the preliminary scale.

Individual Choice Budget

In addition to salary, you receive an Individual Budget of Choice (IKB). The IKB amounts to 17.05% of your salary and consists of: vacation allowance (8%), year-end bonus (6.75%), former life-course savings contribution (1.5%) and leave in excess of statutory requirements (0.8%).

You can have this budget paid out as you wish (monthly) for more salary.

You can also use the budget to:

  • purchase additional leave;
  • fund a training program;
  • Exchange commuting expenses for tax purposes. 

Leave and leave savings

Every employee is entitled to vacation and leave. Those employed full-time are entitled to at least 144 statutory vacation hours per year. As a part-timer, you receive these vacation hours in proportion to the number of hours in your employment contract. We also have a number of vacation hours in excess of the statutory entitlement

You also have the option of saving leave. Savings leave gives you the opportunity to set aside excess vacation hours for later. Savings leave is valid indefinitely. You decide what you want to use your saving leave for. Think of a long vacation, early retirement, informal care or to follow a training or study.

36-hour flexible work week / hybrid working / facilities

The Municipality of Kerkrade considers it important for its employees to be able to reconcile work and private life. Various options exist to this end. 

A full-time work week at the Municipality of Kerkrade consists of 36 hours. In consultation with your supervisor, you plan your work week. Naturally, this only applies to positions where this is possible.

As a guideline for working from home and office, we use 50%-50%. This does not mean that everyone must and can work according to this guideline. Together with your manager, you will make agreements on what the ratio will be. For a number of positions (such as public functions and technical functions) this flexibility is limited. 

The workplace of choice is the workplace that best suits your work at the time. We like to see you where our city needs you. But we also think it's important that you stay connected to the organization and your colleagues.

To enable hybrid working, you will receive a laptop, cell phone and accessories. In addition, as an employer, the municipality is responsible for providing a health and safety responsible workplace at home. Home working facilities for permanent employees consist of a desk, office chair and possibly a monitor.

Good pension

You are assured of a good pension at the lowest possible premium with the ABP Pension Fund. The investments of this pension fund contribute to a sustainable world.
