Schools in Kerkrade

Scholenopdekaart.nl is a website where you can find information about all the schools in our municipality. This gives a good overview and picture of what the schools have to offer. Take a look at the schools in Kerkrade.

Compulsory education of children

Your child is subject to compulsory education when he or she is between the ages of 5 and 16. It must attend school for at least 12 full school years. After that, the qualification requirement begins. Is your child in special education with a work or day care program? Or does your child follow practical education? Then the qualification requirement does not apply.

Children who are not Dutch nationals must also go to school. Compulsory education also applies to them. Asylum seeker children and children who are in the Netherlands illegally are also included.

All information on compulsory education can be found on the website of the Office for Early School Leaving Parkstad Limburg.

Language groups

Several "language groups in the neighborhood" have been launched in Kerkrade. The third language group started in Eygelshoven at the end of 2018. It is possible for residents from Kerkrade to participate in this language group free of charge. The goal is for everyone to start working with the Dutch language at his/her own pace. Do you have difficulty with the Dutch language or do you know someone in your area who has difficulty with language? Then come take a look at the language group in your neighborhood. The locations for the language groups are: Westhoes, Catharinahoes and Eygelshoven Library. You can register via e-mail: taalhuis@bibliotheek-kerkrade.nl or drop in at the language group in your neighborhood.

You can sign up for a language group at any time, there is no start or end date.

Locations and times:

Monday mornings in North - Eygelshoven library from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Wednesday morning in East - Catharinahoes from 9 a.m. - 12 noon
