Tackling undermining in business parks in Kerkrade
The Municipality of Kerkrade is actively engaged in tackling undermining in business parks. We are doing this partly in response to signals from concerned entrepreneurs. This is because undermining not only affects businesses themselves, but also the living environment of our residents.
More company inspections and amended APV
To combat undermining activities, the municipality has increased the number of company inspections. In addition, the General Administrative Order (APV) was amended at the end of last year. Thanks to these adjustments, we can now take better action against undermining activities in and around business premises.
First successful closure through use of new tools
We recently took advantage of these new opportunities. A property on the Locht in Kerkrade was closed for 12 weeks because stripped and stolen car parts were found here.
These new instruments are in line with the objectives of the Integral Security Plan (IVP) and strengthen our approach against undermining. By doing so, we want to make it clear that there is no place for criminal activity in Kerkrade and that we are committed to a safe living and working environment.
APV articles to combat nuisance and abuse
The amended APV offers more opportunities to act on nuisance or criminal activity from business premises.
The new articles:
Article 2:129 - Closure of nuisance buildings open to the public: The mayor may order the closure of a building where a serious nuisance is taking place, in order to protect public order and the residential and living environment.
Article 2:130 - Closure of buildings open to the public in case of crime: For example, when there is the storage of goods obtained by crime in a public building, the mayor may also decide on closure.
