Grant application period for flood control projects opened

From now on, both organizations and individuals in Limburg can apply for a subsidy for projects that contribute to reducing water flooding in the short term. With this so-called "opportunity scheme," the Water Safety and Space Limburg (WRL) program is making a total of €10 million available to support quickly implementable measures that will better protect Limburg from flooding.

These could include projects aimed at water retention, temporary water storage, or controlled water runoff. The grant is available for both smaller initiatives and larger-scale projects, with reimbursements ranging from €5,000 to €500,000 per project. Up to 85% of eligible costs can be reimbursed, depending on the project.

Who can submit an application?

The grant scheme is open to anyone who can submit a suitable project, both organizations and individuals. Only projects that can be realized within two years and have a lasting effect on water safety in Limburg are eligible. Individuals and companies, foundations, associations and other organizations that want to do their part to reduce water flooding are cordially invited to submit an application.

First application period opened from December 3, 2024 to July 1, 2025

The scheme is divided into two tranches, with the first tranche running until July 1, 2025. Applications will be processed in order of receipt, so timely submission is strongly recommended. In the second tranche, which starts January 1, 2026, there is again room for applications.
