Diabolo elementary school officially a Healthy School

Elementary school De Diabolo from Kerkrade may officially call itself a Healthy School since last week. The Healthy School is a program that helps schools to work on a healthy lifestyle. The program involves a unique collaboration between the PO-Raad, VO-raad and MBO Raad, RIVM and GGD GHOR Nederland.

Education, school environment, signaling and policy are the pillars of the Healthy School. In the past period, Diana Heiligers (principal of De Diabolo), Folkert Niessen (teacher and Healthy School coordinator De Diabolo) and Anouk Bisschops (JOGG director in the municipality of Kerkrade and Healthy School advisor GGD Zuid-Limburg) have successfully worked together on the health theme of well-being within the Healthy School approach. As a result, De Diabolo passed the independent quality test and can now officially call itself a Healthy School.

The Healthy School contributes to children's health, well-being and school performance. The concept offers them a better basis for their further development: Children who are comfortable in their own skin learn and work better, and it strengthens children's resilience.

Healthy School is part of the JOGG (Young People at Healthy Weight) approach within the municipality of Kerkrade. In the JOGG approach, the municipality of Kerkrade works together with partners, such as schools and associations, to create a healthier living environment for our children and young people. In addition to De Diabolo, elementary school De Blokkenberg in Kerkrade is also a Healthy School within the Wellness theme. In addition, within Special Secondary Education, Jan Baptist is also a Healthy School related to the theme of Exercise & Sport.
