Parkstad companies and governments join hands: multi-year 'Medlands' program to engage talent

The companies Medtronic, Abbott and Boston Scientific, under the name "Medlands Parkstad," are launching a multi-year collaboration with the municipalities of Heerlen, Kerkrade and Stadsregio Parkstad to strengthen the region's medical sector. Being attractive for talent to work in the sector is at the forefront of the collaboration.

By spring 2024, a multi-year program should be ready in which the themes of image/communication, education, labor market and infrastructure are further developed. Other companies in Parkstad are also invited to join the cooperation, as well as educational institutions and organizations in the field of labor market. The parties are opting for a multi-year cooperation.

The Medtech sector has grown from about 1,000 to almost 6,000 jobs over the past 20 years, making it of very great economic significance for Parkstad. The companies that are taking the initiative for (the provisional working title) 'Medlands Parkstad' are located in business parks in the region and play a directing role in the complete organization of innovation, production and supply of services and products for patient care. The companies and the authorities in 'Medlands Parkstad' find each other based on the common interest to bind sufficient talent to both the sector and the Parkstad region now and in the future.
