Beep Baseball for the visually impaired
Are you blind or visually impaired? So if you have a visual impairment, you can participate in the first Beep Baseball event in the Netherlands on Saturday, October 23, at sports estate De Haamen in Beek. The day starts at 11:00 am and lasts until about 4:00 pm.
Beep baseball is a fun, challenging sport for people with visual impairments that can be played, without a personal buddy, by ear. The first base and baseball make a sound, and by focusing on these sounds, you and the team can play the game independently.
The baseball event is an initiative of Royal Visio and Everyone Can Sport Westelijke Mijnstreek. This in cooperation with a number of other organizations such as Everyone Can Sport Parkstad of which the municipality of Kerkrade is part. Everyone Can Sport wants to promote sports by people with disabilities. Research shows that sports participation of people with disabilities lags behind compared to people without disabilities.
Alderman Jo Schlangen (Sports): "As the municipality of Kerkrade, we embrace Everybody Can Play Sports. This special sports event is a great example of cooperation in the region that ensures that truly everyone can participate in sports and healthy living."
Trainers will be present on the day to guide the athletes. In addition, two professional coaches from Italy will also be present to train the players with visual impairments. Members of the local baseball and softball clubs HSV De Cheetahs and Sittard Condors will also provide support.
Transportation to the location will be arranged as much as possible. This applies only in the province of Limburg.
