Residents move into apartment SUPERLOCAL

A new milestone for the SUPERLOCAL project in Bleijerheide: after the fifteen ground-level homes and the Feniks-3 trial homes, it is now time for the completion of the flat on Voorterstraat.

In the coming weeks, more and more residents will get their keys and can get to work painting, laying floors and moving in. An exciting time for them. At the bottom of the building is the so-called Superlocal, which is expected to open in the spring. This is a meeting space for the residents of the apartment, but certainly also for the neighborhood! So we certainly hope that many local residents will come and take a look.
Alderman Tim Weijers (Spatial Planning/Public Space/Housing): "This is the moment we have been looking forward to together with the current and new residents of the area. As neighbors, they are going to make Europe's first circular residential area their neighborhood from a common sustainable and social idea. We wish everyone the best of luck in their new home!"

Public space

The area is not quite finished. Work on the apartment has taken longer than anticipated. Unfortunately, this also affects the work on the public areas, because we have to deal with different, more unfavorable weather conditions in the winter. And when it comes to things like pouring concrete and paving, we are very dependent on the weather. Obviously, we are doing everything we can to complete the work as quickly as possible. So in the coming months we will continue to work hard on the public space.

Later this year, we will work with residents and neighbors to reflect in detail on the completion of the entire project.

In the SUPERLOCAL project in Bleijerheide, as many materials as possible from former high-rise flats are being used for the construction of new housing and public space. There will be 130 new affordable rental homes, a common space for residents and neighbors, and a water cycle that collects and purifies rainwater. SUPERLOCAL is a circular building project dedicated to sustainability and resident participation. Twelve parties are working together: municipality of Kerkrade, HEEMwonen, WBL, WML, Veras, municipality of Brunssum, municipality of Landgraaf, Zuyd Hogeschool, Bouwbedrijven Jongen, Dusseldorp demolition and infra and the city region of Parkstad Limburg.
