Nearly a thousand children walked the Peuter4daagse and Kleuter4daagse in Kerkrade

Last week almost a thousand toddlers and preschoolers walked the Peuter4daagse and the Kleuter4daagse in municipality of Kerkrade. On Friday, June 16, Alderman Jo Schlangen presented medals to the toddlers at Kinderdagverblijf Reuzefijn in Kerkrade.

During the Week for Healthy Youth, pedagogical staff and teachers from 12 childcare sites and four elementary schools went outside for a walk of at least 15 minutes for at least four days. At the end of the Toddler and Preschool 4 Days, all children received a well-deserved and genuine KWBN medal.

Basis for child development
The walk contributed to the children's daily amount of exercise. Sufficient exercise is important for child development. It improves physical growth, but is also important for cognitive and social-emotional development. By giving the very young a lot of exercise, they also learn concepts such as high, low, far, near, rhythm, balance, distance estimation and cooperation. Learned young is done old!

Walking fits into daily rhythm
During the annual Toddler and Preschool 4-Day Walk, participating children and their caregivers experience how fun and easy it is to walk regularly. The children are set a good example and learn at a young age how walking fits into their daily rhythm.

Healthy Youth, Healthy Future
In 2016, the Peuter4daagse was launched by Peuteropvang Heerlen in cooperation with JOGG Heerlen (Healthy Youth, Healthy Future). Two years later, the other Limburg municipalities also participated, and a Kleuter4daagse was also developed at the request of Limburg Childcare Centers. The Peuter- en Kleuter4daagse have since been adopted by the Koninklijke Wandelbond Nederland (KWBN) and grown into a national event. The Peuter4daagse was made possible in Limburg in part by JOGG, the KWBN, Huis voor de Sport Limburg, GGD Zuid-Limburg, Province of Limburg, participating municipalities, childcare umbrellas and elementary school.
