What to do?

Applying for Social assistance benefit during corona crisis

We feel responsible for the health of our customers and employees. Therefore, to prevent further spread of the Coronavirus, we have chosen to limit social contacts in the form of conversations.

This also applies to calls related to a Social assistance benefit. If you would like to qualify for a Social assistance benefit benefit, you can contact the Municipality of Kerkrade by telephone on weekdays between 9 a.m. and noon at 14 045.

How does it work?

I reported, then what happens?

The municipality confirms the notification by letter and in it invites you for a telephone interview with a staff member. It is important that you can be reached by telephone at the appointed time. During the telephone conversation we will explain the further procedure. The municipality will also provide information about the possibility of free assistance.

The municipality collects all the data about your situation that is needed for the interview. If it involves data that the municipality cannot see itself, the municipality will ask you to provide that data. The invitation to the interview will make it clear what data these are.

After the notification and interview with a municipal employee, you can submit an application according to the rules that apply. The application can be submitted in writing using an application form provided by the municipality. You will be given this application form at the end of the interview.

27 years of age or older?

The municipality determines whether you are entitled to Social assistance benefit benefit and how much money you will receive. To get Social assistance benefit benefit, your income and equity (assets such as your house and savings) must be below the asset limit.

Younger than 27?

Young people aged 18 to 27 must first look for work or training opportunities themselves for 4 weeks. We call this the search period. If after 4 weeks it turns out that there are no such opportunities, the municipality will decide whether you are entitled to a Social assistance benefit and how much money you will receive.

What should I bring?

During your first face-to-face meeting with a council employee, you will be told what information you need to provide to the council for the application.

How long does it take?

Once you have provided all the information, you will be notified within 8 weeks. Four weeks after the application, you are entitled to an advance payment.
