Kerkrade-West neighborhood walk on June 1, 2024
All residents living in Kerkrade West are welcome to join other neighborhood and community residents, municipal employees and the Board of Mayor and Aldermen for a walk through various neighborhoods and streets in West. Anyone can join and share ideas for the neighborhood.
Start walk at 't Sjtaater Hoes
The walk starts at 10 a.m. from the parking lot of 't Sjtaater Hoes. The program includes a beautiful route through Kerkrade-West. The conclusion is at gunnery Sint Sebastianus with a cup of coffee and some goodies. The end time is 13:30.
Purpose of the neighborhood walk
The neighborhood walk is intended to explain the streets, objects, completed projects. Future projects and work will also be explained in more detail.
Also neighborhood walks in East and North
The Kerkrade-West neighborhood walk is the first walk in a series of three. The neighborhood walk in Kerkrade-North is scheduled for June 29, 2024, and Kerkrade-East will follow with a walk on September 21, 2024.
Practical information
You can join at any time. The route of about 5 km is well trodden. Please put on good footwear. Pre-registration is not necessary.
Route neighborhood walk
At 10 a.m. the walk will start from Terwinselen, 't Sjtaater Hoes (1) and head towards Singelweg (2) BS De Doorkijk to see how traffic safety at/around the elementary school has been improved. Via the Pastoor Spiertsstraat towards Kaalheidersteenweg - Lavender (3) - Park West (Heilust), around 10:20 a.m.: area development West is gaining Space - living in the green/community together.
The route continues through the park to Gladiolenstraat - corner - Akerstraat (Spekholzerheide) approx. 10:35 a.m.: the large mural (4) on the side wall is the result of the residents' project.
On the Akerstraat the walk goes towards the shopping area and the apartment complex (5) - Akerstraat - corner - Kremerstraat. In the future there will be a development demolition/reconstruction housing here.
The walk goes to Akerstraat (6), the historic ribbon of West. Then there is a short stop at Carboonplein/Akerstraat/Patronaatstraat, ca. 10:50 a.m.: the shopping facility (7) of West.
The route heads toward Industriestraat (8), for an explanation of the plans for this place. ca. 11:00 a.m.
Via Plein the route goes to the BS De Spoorzoeker (9) ca. 11.20 hrs: here attention is paid to the measures taken to increase traffic safety. The schoolyard is an example of sustainability, stone breaking/greening, exercise and play in a natural environment.
The route continues across the railroad tracks to Parallelweg (10) (Moat) approx. 11:35 a.m. Here there will be a brief explanation of various developments taking place in this area.
Finally, the route heads to the Wauwel Trail. At the verenigingslokaal of schutterij St. Sebastianus (11) (12:00 - 12:15) we will be welcomed with a cup of coffee and some goodies. The neighborhood walk slowly comes to an end.
