College and council support Heerlen Hospital Alliance

Recently, media reports appeared about a possible closure of emergency room, intensive care and inpatient beds at Zuyderland Hospital in Heerlen. The possible loss of these functions of the hospital has a major effect on the residents of the Parkstad region. Kerkrade's college and municipal council want to make efforts to preserve a fully-fledged hospital for the region. That is why they are joining the Hospital Alliance.

The Heerlen political parties have joined hands in the Hospital Alliance to preserve a full-fledged hospital for Parkstad and the Heuvelland region. Kerkrade's college and city council are joining this, convinced that the Parkstad region, with 257,000 inhabitants, needs a full-sized hospital.

The College of the Municipality of Kerkrade, like the other municipalities, has learned of Zuyderland's intention through the media. The college would have liked to be approached directly about this. The efforts of the college are now focused on obtaining more information from the parties involved about this situation. It requires thorough research and contact with, among others, hospital Zuyderland Heerlen and our own partners in the social domain in order to properly understand the effects. The starting point is to organize the necessary patient care as close as possible while maintaining the right quality.
