The Hub.Kerkrade
The HuB, the city's cultural living room, houses the Parkstad Limburg Theater, the Mijn Streek library, and the Music and Dance School (SMK). Throughout the year, you can enjoy theater, music, and dance performances, films, workshops, and lectures. This makes it a great place for young and old alike. You can also just walk in to read a newspaper or magazine.
Discovery Museum
The Discovery Museum is located on Museumplein. Here you can learn about science, technology, and sustainability in a fun way. The museum is interesting for families, children, and anyone who is curious about science and technology.
In addition, various exhibitions are held at Martin Buber Square throughout the year.
The World Music Competition
There is always something going on in the center of Kerkrade. There are many cultural activities and events. A well-known example is the World Music Contest (WMC). This major music festival takes place every four years, with the next edition scheduled for 2026. Musicians from all over the world perform high-quality music in the city center. Music can be heard everywhere, and many people come to watch and listen.
The Carnival Museum Kirchroa
The Vasteloavends Museum Kirchroa is also located in the center of Kerkrade. This museum is dedicated to the rich carnival culture (Vasteloavend) and shows how this tradition is celebrated in Kerkrade and beyond. The museum displays medals, uniforms, photographs, and other historical material. The collection includes objects not only from Limburg, but also from other parts of the Netherlands and abroad. The Vasteloavends Museum Kirchroa shows how important carnival is to local identity and is interesting for both residents and visitors.
Art route through the city center
The Eurode Art Route also runs through Kerkrade Center. Along this route, there are various works of art in public spaces, created by artists from different European countries. The art route connects culture to the city and invites visitors to discover art while walking through the center.
