Young Caregiver Week is coming up!
From June 1 to 7, 2024 is the Week of the Young Caregiver. During that week, the municipality of Kerkrade puts young people who care in the spotlight. We will go on camp, we will drink mocktails and we will take some time for each other. Because informal caregivers do more than you think!
Nearly a quarter of all young people in the Netherlands care for someone
Can you still concentrate well enough in school when your sister is in the hospital? Or do you sometimes have to cancel appointments with friends because your mother can't be home alone? About a quarter of children and adolescents in the Netherlands are young caregivers. This is much more than most people think. These young family caregivers often have extraHealth) tasks at home, in addition they also worry or miss the necessary Health and attention for themselves. Such a situation has more impact than you think.
More than you think
That is the theme of the Week of the Young Mantel Caregiver 2024. Together with Impuls Kerkrade, the Support Center for Mantel Caregivers and the Toon Hermans House, the municipality of Kerkrade is organizing various activities for all children and young people that are not to be missed. Like a camping trip and a mocktail night. A small gesture, like paying attention to each other for a moment, has more effect than you think!
