Dead corner education at elementary school in Kerkrade
On Wednesday, January 8, Transport and Logistics Netherlands provided a theory and practice lesson 'Safe on the Road! Stay out of the blind spot' at OBS de Schatkist in Kerkrade municipality. The blind spot is the area around a vehicle that a driver cannot see, even with the help of mirrors and/or cameras. Driving close to a truck or bus can lead to dangerous traffic situations and accidents.
Blind spot education consists of theory lessons and practical lessons for children in grades 7 and 8. During the theory lessons, they learn more about the concept of the blind spot and how to stay safe in traffic. Then the knowledge is applied in practice, where they see outside how dangerous situations can occur and how to avoid them. This interactive method ensures that children are not only listening, but also experiencing it. With this practical approach, children remember the information better and can use it more easily in their daily lives.
Alderman Raoul Vinken (Mobility) also attended the traffic lessons. "The blind spot education gives the children the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe in traffic. In addition, it ensures that they are well prepared when they enter high school, for which they will participate independently in traffic more often." said Alderman Raoul Vinken.
During the rest of school year 2024-2025, more elementary schools in Kerkrade municipality will host these classes.
