German test alarm on cell phone
Limburgers who are near a German transmitter mast at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, can receive a test emergency message on their cell phones from the German government.
At that time, a test message similar to the Dutch NL-Alert will be sent to all cell phones throughout Germany. In addition to this so-called "cell broadcast," sirens will also go off across the country at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, as part of this test.
Upon receiving the test message, your phone may also make a loud sound. Those who receive such a test message or hear the siren do not have to do anything.
In some parts of the Limburg border area, Dutch cell phones can connect to a German transmitter mast. The user then sees the name of a German provider (Telekom, Vodafone DE or Telefónica) on his screen. At that point, German emergency messages can be received.
