Thinning at Spoorzoeker: Young forest in development

In the forest near Spoorzoeker, a thinning is currently being carried out. This means removing some of the trees because they are competition for other trees. This pioneer forest, young, self-created and developing, contains many seedlings of Oak, Beech, Hornbeam and Cherry. These species are desirable because they provide a strong and climate-resistant forest. The other tree species along the path are more likely to eventually fall over or break down. This creates dangerous situations.

The work will be carried out by Yuverta students during a sawing course, and then finished by township employees. This thinning ensures that the young trees get more growing space, light and nutrients.
