A beautiful green meeting place for the Credo House Parkstad thanks to students from Yuverta Heerlen
Students of the horticultural school of Yuverta Heerlen, together with Vebego Groen, have been busy redesigning the garden (and meeting place) of the Credohuis in Kerkrade since November 2022. On Friday, March 24, the Credo House Parkstad, with its new garden was officially opened!
The approach to the garden is a collaboration between Gemeente Kerkrade, Vebego Groen, the Credo House Parkstad and Yuverta Heerlen.
The garden is an important place for the Credo House
The Credo House offers a safe and secure (t)home to homeless and homeless youth ages 18 to 24. Here young people can flourish again. And they are helped to participate in society again. The garden of the house plays an important role in this: it is a meeting place for the residents. All rooms of the house also have a view of the garden. The garden was in dire need of a facelift. That is why the Credo House asked Vebego Groen to make a design. And to the municipality to help think about a plan of action. The municipality then involved the Yuverta Heerlen landscaping course in the project. And so everything came together in one project group.
Yuverta students implemented the project
Two groups of horticulture students from Yuverta helped build the garden. First they cleared the garden, then they created new flower beds, paths and a vegetable garden. They also put up flower boxes and created areas where the home's residents could sit together. A barbecue area and bicycle storage were also considered.
Alderman René van Drunen (Youth Care): "A beautiful garden where the young people can meet and visit each other and their supervisors is an important part of a warm and welcoming home. The fact that students from Yuverta Heerlen helped lay it out makes the project extra special. Thus it has become a garden 'by young people, for young people'."
Thanks to the project, students learn a lot about their future profession
This project was a great opportunity for the students of Yuverta Heerlen. After all, at the beginning of the 2022/2023 school year, the course in horticulture started 'learning in the region'. A project in which Yuverta Heerlen cooperates with various organizations from the region in addition to the lessons at school. So that the students can participate in different projects 'in the real world'. This way they can learn more about their profession.
Alderman Jo Schlangen (Education): "We naturally like to give these future gardeners the opportunity to work on our green projects. Because this way the students can see what they can encounter in their later profession. And they have done a wonderful job here for the young people staying at the Credo House Parkstad!"
