First results Citizen Panel IBA and City Region
Three-quarters of the 255,000 residents of Parkstad Limburg are familiar with the IBA concept and half can name the participating municipalities. These are some of the findings from the citizens' consultation commissioned by IBA Parkstad and Stadsregio Parkstad Limburg.
Since 2013, Parkstad Limburg has been associated with the Internationale Bau Ausstellung (IBA) concept that gives a region or city a powerful boost when it comes to economy, space and society. IBA Parkstad involves all the municipalities of Parkstad Limburg: Heerlen, Kerkrade, Landgraaf, Brunssum, Voerendaal, Simpelveld and Beekdaelen, as well as the province of Limburg.
Parkstad Limburg
The consultation shows that the municipalities involved in Parkstad Limburg are not known to all residents. One in three say they are, but then name them incorrectly or incompletely. In particular, Beekdaelen, Simpelveld and Voerendaal are forgotten. In general, residents feel at home here, which is mainly due to nature, culture and recreation. GaiaZOO functions together with Snow World, Brunssummerheide and several castles as a business card for Parkstad Limburg. Housing and Livability appear to be the most important themes.
IBA Park City
Three-quarters of residents are familiar with the IBA concept, with just under half knowing that Parkstad Limburg has been affiliated with it since 2013. They also know that the concluding exhibition year will start in August 2021. During the expo year, the 50 IBA projects will be presented throughout Parkstad and the conversation about the future of the region will begin.

As a follow-up to this first consultation, the second citizen consultation will be presented to the citizens of Parkstad Limburg at the end of May, with the topic of landmarks in the region.
