First results questionnaire on dog policy in Kerkrade
From March 1 to April 8, residents could fill out a questionnaire and tell us what they think about the rules for dogs in Kerkrade. What's good, and what could be better.
We went through the answers and can already tell you a bit more about the first results.
Dog poop and dog tax
Of the nearly 1,700 people who completed the questionnaire, more than 60% own a dog.
The responses show, among other things, that residents are bothered by dog poop on the street. They want more enforcement and more trash cans so that dog poop is cleaned up better. A large portion of people also want to get rid of the dog tax.
What do we do with the results?
The results are the basis for the new dog policy. Because we want the new policy to match what residents want. Alderman Alexander Geers (Public Space): "We are now going to work on the first version of the new dog policy. We want to present this to the college and council after the summer vacation. We expect to have the new policy ready before the end of this year. It will in any case state that from 2024 dog owners will no longer have to pay taxes for the first dog."
