Extra money for future-proof center in Kerkrade

The Ministry of Economic Affairs & Climate has granted a financial contribution of nearly €4.3 million for the center of Kerkrade from the Impulse Approach Shopping Areas.

Alderman Alexander Geers is now keen to move ahead quickly with the plan of attack for Kerkrade city center: "The plan of attack describes how we want to work with our area partners to achieve a vital and socially and economically strong center. We are working on a complete facilities mix for young and old in a compact and comfortable center. We go for fewer empty storefronts, more housing and more green space. With the additional support from the State, we can now take this forward energetically."

Among other things, the money will be used for transformation of commercial and vacant sites into housing, permanent housing of the Martin Buber on the former hospital site and more greenery in the center. Through this approach, the livability and experience of our center will receive a considerable positive boost for our business owners and visitors to the center area.
