Festival 't Kirchroa va Mörje

Alderman René van Drunen

Joint task
Energy transition is a national and even international task. Especially in a hard-hit region like ours, we can and must make a difference. In the short term, we are doing everything possible to mitigate the impact of the social disaster, which may already make itself felt this winter. With the help of European and national support, the municipality of Kerkrade is taking concrete action in both the short and long term with two main goals: informing its residents and transforming homes. All these measures contribute to the triple goal of the social alliance: an affordable energy bill, a livable living room temperature and a sustainable footprint.

Inform
To make residents more aware of the importance of looking ahead, the municipality continues to inform them. Some examples include the WoonWijzerWinkel, the use of government resources, offering residents a budget to purchase their own (small) energy-saving measures and the Kerkrade Energy & Climate Fund. The Festival 't Kirchroa va Mörje fits in with this as an accessible and approachable festival. With informing and inspiring as the main goal. Different themes are discussed at different locations. Beautiful examples followed by a "and what do you do?" approach. Climate, energy, food, water, waste, recycling, clothing, consumerism, living, nature, biodiversity, transportation, leisure and education. It will all be addressed. Everything to make our municipality and its inhabitants future-proof.

Awareness and participation

"Awareness is the first challenge," says Alderman René van Drunen (Sustainability). "And then the real participation of everyone. The transition is a task for all of us, not just the municipality. We want to challenge and enthuse our residents, because looking ahead means reaping benefits. For your wallet, your home and your living environment. Stronger together for future generations, for our children and grandchildren. My wife and I have three children and one grandchild. There must be a future for them. That's what I do it for, what about you?"
