Photo exhibition 'Where am I seen' in Flexiforum
The Flexiforum in Kerkrade is hosting the photo exhibition "Where am I seen" from Jan. 31 to Feb. 12. Mayor Petra Dassen opened the exhibition on Wednesday, which tells the story of a number of young migrant women from Kerkrade and Wiesbaden.
The women took pictures of places in their new hometown where they experienced social recognition, where they felt comfortable, liked to go and where they found connection. The term social recognition refers to the positive evaluation (affirmation, recognition) of a person or their actions by the social environment.
The exhibition is the result of the "social wellbeiing" project set up by the Social Work Department of the Hochschule RheinMain in Wiesbaden, Germany, in cooperation with welfare organization Impuls in Kerkrade. The main research question was: in which places in Kerkrade and Wiesbaden do women with a recent migration background experience social recognition and (help) shape it themselves?
The young women who have recently moved to Kerkrade and Wiesbaden show streets, monuments or buildings that seem strange or beautiful to them. Their photographs speak of spaces of relaxation, friendship, recognition and memory and show how these migrant women experience our society. After Kerkrade, the exhibition will also be on display in Wiesbaden.
