Physical accessibility

The municipality of Kerkrade wants everyone to be able to visit the city center without obstacles. That is why we are working together with residents, entrepreneurs, and organizations to create a city center that is accessible to everyone. We are doing this with the SME Accessible Route, the Ongehinderd app, and the HogeNood app.

SME Accessible Route

More and more shops and catering establishments in the city center are being assessed for accessibility. Locations are assessed according to the Dutch Accessibility Quality Mark.

Participating businesses receive a free accessibility check and an advisory report. Many locations have now been awarded a gold, silver, or bronze quality mark.

The Ongehinderd app shows you immediately which businesses in the city center are accessible.

Public restrooms

There are several wheelchair-accessible toilets available in the center.

In addition, the HogeNood app shows exactly:

  • where the nearest restroom is;
  • whether you have to pay;
  • whether the toilet is wheelchair accessible;
  • whether there is a baby changing area available.

For many people, an accessible toilet is not a luxury but a necessity. Thanks to the HogeNood app, you can visit the city center with peace of mind.

Parking for the disabled

Want to quickly find out which shops, cafes, restaurants, or public buildings are accessible?

Via Ongehinderd, you can easily view:

  • the accessibility of entrances;
  • facilities available;
  • quality marks of entrepreneurs in the center.

View all assessed locations on the Ongehinderd website or download the Ongehinderd app.

Together we are building an accessible center

Entrepreneurs can continue to register for both the SME Accessible Route and the HogeNood app. As a result, the number of accessible locations in the city center is constantly growing.

You can register via:
the MKB Accessible Route website;
the HogeNood website.
