Area development Holzkuil

In the upcoming period, work is taking place on behalf of the municipality of Kerkrade in the Holzkuil area, the open area located between Eygelshovergracht and Tichelstraat.

Until a few years ago, residential development was planned in the Holzkuil area. A large part of the site is now owned again by the Municipality of Kerkrade and is being transformed into a recreational and scenic area with agricultural activities. The redevelopment provides a significant quality impulse for the Holzkuil area, focusing on strengthening the qualities already present and counteracting the cluttering of the current landscape.

About 3 connecting structures will be realized in the area.

A slow traffic route as part of the IBA project "Ikgroenhet" between Eygelshovergracht to Tichelstraat. This connection will in the future become part of the connection between the Worm valley and the Anstel valley. Restoring and making more accessible the existing historical footpath through the area. And in addition, the creation of a so-called "wooden shoe path" between the Vinkerstraat and the Roman Villa Holzkuil, where one can walk freely through the field.

Natural landscape elements are used to designate these routes, with plantings placed along the routes and in the field.

These include accompanying tree plantings, prominent solitary trees, mixed Limburg hedges, standard orchards and herb-rich and flower-rich grasslands.

The routes will feature seating areas at prominent locations and tourist info related to the Roman Villa Holzkuil.

When

Work for the realization of the slow traffic route will start this spring. Other connections will be realized during this year. At a later stage, plantings will be made in the area. Planting will be done in phases.
