Today digging took place at a construction site on the Wenckebachstraat. The municipality of Kerkrade received a report that a number of batteries from the 1980s might be buried here. These would contain radioactive material. Fortunately, we can report that no batteries were found.

According to the anonymous reporter, the batteries were allegedly buried in a concrete pit on the former Medtronic site. The reporter identified an exact spot. The municipality of Kerkrade contacted the ANVS after the report . An inspector in Kerkrade reviewed the situation and spoke with the reporter. The RIVM took measurements at the spot where the batteries were said to be buried. However, more research was needed to get certainty.
