Municipality of Kerkrade supports beekeepers in controlling Asian hornet's warbler
The Asian hornet, recognizable by its black thorax, black legs with yellow tips and a yellow-orange band on its black abdomen, is increasingly common in the Netherlands. This invasive species poses a danger to other insects, nature and can sting painfully.
The municipality of Kerkrade supports beekeepers in protecting bees by donating bait boxes to catch new queens in the spring. This invasive species threatens not only bee colonies, but also crop pollination and biodiversity as a whole. "It is imperative that we support our local beekeepers in their fight against the Asian hornet. Cooperation and vigilance are essential to counter the advance of this invasive species." said Alderman Alexander Geers.

What can you do yourself?
In spring, check sheds, shelters and sheltered areas for nests of the Asian hornet. Ask your neighborhood to do the same. Upon seeing an Asian hornet or nest, stay away, take a picture if possible and report it to the national hotline here.
