Kerkrade municipality tackles oak processionary caterpillar nuisance
The hairy caterpillar can again be found in oak trees in the coming months. The burning hairs of the caterpillar cause irritation to skin, eyes and respiratory tract. The municipality is therefore taking measures to prevent the nuisance as much as possible
We control the caterpillar even before the development of the stinging hairs. This is done by spraying with a biological agent that controls only the caterpillar and is completely harmless to animals and humans.
If you are still bothered by the oak processionary caterpillar, please report it to the municipality at 14 045 or gemeentehuis@kerkrade.nl
Where the caterpillars are a nuisance, they are sucked away by a specialized company.
