The municipality of Kerkrade designates four emergency support centers in the neighborhood

Preparing for prolonged power outages

The municipality of Kerkrade has designated four locations as emergency support centers. These centers are an important link in providing assistance to residents when regular services are disrupted due to prolonged power outages or cyber disruptions, for example.

Mayor Petra Dassen: "It is our responsibility to ensure that residents are never left to fend for themselves in times of major disruption. With these four emergency support centers, we are taking an important step in strengthening our local crisis preparedness. These facilities provide residents with a reliable place to go when normal systems fail. Together, we are building a resilient Kerkrade."

Purpose of emergency support centers
An emergency support center is a place where the municipality, safety region, emergency services, and local residents work together during prolonged emergencies. You can obtain information and request assistance if truly necessary. If you have run out of food, drink, or medication, they will know where you can go. In setting up these centers, the municipality follows the guidelines set out in the program of requirements drawn up by the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG) and the Safety Council, with the municipality participating in a pilot project of the Safety Region.

Four locations selected
To ensure good coverage across the municipality, four emergency support points have been designated. The selected locations are:

  1. North District: Socio Project Eygelshoven – Terbruggen 16, 6471 JV Eygelshoven
  2. West District: Community Center 't Westhoes – Anemonenstraat 16, 6466 SZ Kerkrade
  3. East District: Community Center 't Patronaat – Ursulastraat 232, 6462 TZ Kerkrade
  4. East/Center District: Vie Kerkrade – Vieboulevard 21, 6461 ND Kerkrade

Continued in 2026
Over the coming year, we will be providing information about the four designated emergency support centers via various communication channels. Where possible, we will also be expanding the number of emergency support centers so that residents throughout Kerkrade have more places to turn to. At the same time, we are investing in the purchase of emergency power generators and emergency communication equipment, and in strengthening business continuity.
