Kerkrade municipality commits to road safety
The municipality of Kerkrade, together with the Province of Limburg and other Limburg municipalities, will improve traffic safety by continuing the Traffic Active School and introducing the Target Group Approach to Influencing Behavioral Traffic Safety Limburg.
Traffic-active school
The Verkeersactieve school project, which has been running since 2021, will be continued for four school years. This program provides primary and secondary schools in Limburg with free traffic education projects and materials. Schools can choose from a digital menu with various topics such as safe cycling, traffic behavior, and the blind spot of trucks. The goal is to make students aware of traffic safety and to train them practically in safe traffic behavior. In Kerkrade, all primary schools participate in the Traffic Active School.
Alderman Alexander Geers (Traffic) emphasizes that traffic safety is a top priority for the municipality of Kerkrade: "With the Traffic Active School and the Target Group Approach to Behavioral Influencing, we are investing in the safety of our children, adults, and the elderly. Together we are working on a municipality where everyone can get from A to B safely. It is our shared responsibility to reduce traffic fatalities to zero."
Target group approach Behavioral influence
The Target Group Approach focuses on behavior change among youth, adults, and the elderly. The emphasis is on topics such as distracted driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and speed. This approach is based on scientific insights and practical experience. The program, which runs from 2025 to 2028, aims to increase road safety and reduce traffic fatalities.
Both initiatives are carried out in cooperation with the Regional Organ of Traffic Safety Limburg (ROVL), which aims to achieve zero traffic casualties.
