Facade corner building Akerstraat/Kleingraverstraat to be addressed

In recent months, the Municipality of Kerkrade has looked at several options for addressing the exposed side facade of the corner building on Akerstraat / Kleingraverstraat. Of these possibilities, it proved feasible to apply a layer of sprayed concrete to the side facade.

Alderman Tim Weijers (Spatial Planning / Public Space / Housing): "Finally we have come to a viable solution. The local residents have been looking at an ugly side facade since the facade cloth was removed. By applying this solution, a good view is created again."

Together with the property owners, a short-term solution will be provided. The goal is to address the facade this spring. The work consists of three steps:

  1. Lowering the existing facade to about 50 centimeters above the flat roofs.
  2. Applying a layer of sprayed concrete over the entire surface.
  3. Applying a cover plate across the full width of the facade.
The facade is covered with black construction tarpaulin; there is a fence around the building
