Gijs Hilhorst receives Beleef Kerkrade Award for exceptional commitment

During the annual Entrepreneurs Day "Meet and Make Kerkrade" on Oct. 10, 2024, Alderman Alexander Geers (Economic Affairs) presented the Beleef Kerkrade Award to Gijs Hilhorst. This award recognizes his long-standing and voluntary commitment to Kerkrade's economic interests.

Gijs Hilhorst, an entrepreneur in Kerkrade (Hilhorst Tegels & Sanitair), as founder and chairman of the Rodaboulevard business association since 2002, has put the city and in particular the Rodaboulevard on the Map . His vision has contributed to the attractiveness of the boulevard, which attracts seven million visitors annually.

As chairman of the Samenwerkende Bedrijventerreinen Kerkrade (SBK), he championed a covenant with the municipality, allowing the SBK to provide solicited and unsolicited advice on economic matters. He was also a co-initiator of the Kerkrade Business Parks Enterprise Fund.

Alderman Alexander Geers: "Gijs Hilhorst has made an enormous contribution to Kerkrade's economic development with his tireless efforts and passion. His work has not only strengthened the Rodaboulevard, but also fostered cooperation between entrepreneurs and the municipality, which is essential for continued growth and success."

During the presentation, Mayor Petra Dassen and Alderman Alexander Geers emphasized the important role of local entrepreneurs. In addition, the positive impact of business parks on employment and the economic perspective of the municipality was highlighted. The Rodaboulevard remains a crucial part of the local economy and has not yet grown. 

About the Experience Kerkrade Award 

The Beleef Kerkrade Award is intended for individuals and organizations who put Kerkrade on the Map in a positive, exceptional way. Gijs Hilhorst is the second person to receive the Beleef Kerkrade Award. Roel Roukens of the Kirchröadsjer Sjpaskloeb SjunJek received the first Beleef Kerkrade Award on Tuesday, February 14. He received the trophy because of the restart of the event season after the corona period from the hands of Alderman Tim Weijers (Tourism, Marketing and Events).
