Fiber optics in Kerkrade
Fiber to the street provides fast and strong internet. The municipality itself cannot install fiberglass in streets. This is written in the Telecommunications Act. The laying of fiberglass is done by commercial companies. Commercial companies also advertise fiberglass themselves.
There are several fiber optic providers in the Netherlands. Each company is laying its own fiber optic network. It can therefore happen that in one municipality several parties are laying a fiber optic network at the same time.
In Kerkrade, the commercial companies Open Dutch Fiber and DELTA Netwerk are allowed to install fiber optics. You may therefore receive messages about fiber optics from these companies.
Companies wishing to install fiber optics must apply for a permit from the municipality.
Companies decide in which area and at which addresses they want to install fiber optics. However, they must apply for a permit from the municipality. This is because the municipality imposes Requirements on the execution of the work in the public space. The municipality does this to ensure that the work goes smoothly. Only once the municipality has granted the permit can fiber optic companies actually start laying the cable.

The company Open Dutch Fiber may install fiber optics throughout Kerkrade. Open Dutch Fiber is working together with T-Mobile Netherlands. They inform local residents via letters about the work in the neighborhood.
