Outdoor play of the future begins in Kerkrade

To make outdoor play more attractive to children, the Kerkrade municipality has become the first municipality in the Netherlands to sign an agreement with Amsterdam-based software company Pleintje.

In the app Pleintje, children aged between 8 and 14 play the coolest and newest games outside. Playing outdoors becomes fun again with today's modern technology.

Pleintje is a mobile application that supports and encourages children to play (interactive) games outside with friends. The concept revolves around gamification; the trends of the games that children play indoors are taken outside. For example, there are Avatars in Pleintje that you as a user develop by playing outside as much as possible. Every two or three months there will be new games in Pleintje.

Mick Remmers, founder of Pleintje: "We are extremely proud to have Kerkrade as the first official partner to join the platform. The team is really looking forward to working with local partners to put the outdoor play of the future in Kerkrade on the Map . Health and vitality are, as for us, important themes in Kerkrade. Pleintje app therefore fits seamlessly into the Vie - Living on the Move program, because our games also get young people outside moving around nicely."

To begin with Hide and Seek 2.0. Old-fashioned hide-and-seek, but with today's technology wrapped up in a new look. For example, the searcher can use the phone's GPS to see for a short time where the hideouts are hiding.

Innovation

Pleintje app is part of one of the programs of Vie - Leven in Beweging. This is the comprehensive program that aims to improve the health and vitality of Kerkrade and Parkstad residents. Alderman Jo Schlangen (Education): "A healthy future starts with a healthy youth. We expect that with these exciting games we will entice Kerkrade's youth to play more outdoors and thus exercise more. In fact, we bring two worlds together in the outdoors. Now that's what you call innovation."

Partner Roda JC

Roda JC is one of the social partners in this project. Players from the soccer club will participate in a number of games during the coming year. "We are happy to lend our cooperation to this project because we think it is important for children to be active outside in a healthy way," said Remco Heuts, CSR coordinator at Roda JC. "This new form of outdoor play helps keep our children fit. As a BVO, we obviously also have a social task in Parkstad and in this case we are happy to fulfill it with the municipality of Kerkrade and Pleintje."

Logos Square App, Vie and Roda JC

Starting in early September, Kerkrade will be all about the outdoor play of the future, including its own Kerkrade Avatar drawing contest. The winning Avatar will enter the Pleintje app for free (outdoor) play. In addition, the Verstoppertje 2.0 event is planned in which children will play the Pleintje game Verstoppertje 2.0 together with Roda JC soccer players.

The official kick-off of Pleintje will be held at the end of October in and around the Parkstad Limburg Stadium. Together with the Roda squad, a number of children will then play Change the Game. The name says it all.... A game that can continuously change into an even more challenging game than it was during the kick-off.

Alderman Schlangen and the various partners display the outdoor play contract. They sit in the stands of the Parkstad Limburg Stadium.
