It's Now or Never for The Martin Buber in Kerkrade
A crucial time has arrived for Het Martin Buber, a new secondary school in Kerkrade. The final sprint has begun and is taking shape in the Month of Het Martin Buber.
With a few weeks to go, some 150 parent statements still need to be obtained. Only then can the municipality make an application for the school to the Ministry of Education. So it really is Now or Never!
There is rock-solid confidence that the number will be met, but the council is once again making a strong appeal to parents whose children will be 10, 11 or 12 years old on Nov. 1, 2021, to complete the parent statement by Oct. 15 .
We really need every statement! Because if the number of 665 is not reached by October 15, then the curtain falls. Then Kerkrade will not have a full-fledged secondary education in town. And that is what the children and the city of Kerkrade do deserve, believe responsible Alderman Jo Schlangen and Mayor Petra Dassen-Housen. Watch their appeal below:

Monday, September 6 through Thursday, September 30 is Martin Buber's Month. During this month, everything will be pulled out to draw attention to the new school and the parent statements that are still needed. For example, some members of the children's council will be recording vlogs as raving reporters, there will be a poster campaign with the cooperation of Kerkrade artist Miriam Vleugels, the Martin Buber Team will be present everywhere in town, information meetings will take place, we will make use of banners, and council and committee members will also help to draw as much attention as possible.
And so there are numerous actions and activities.
The Martin Buber
The educational concept of The Martin Buber can be called unique. Every child is given room to discover their talents and develop their potential. A rich, varied environment is provided in which they can orient themselves to their future.
This happens in the physical building, but also outside, with hotspots in the city's various neighborhoods, for example, in the areas of sports, drama, Health and Wellness, nature, technology or music. Core issues are character development, citizenship, critical thinking, creativity and collaboration.
The concept is not only for the child, but also for the family. The Martin Buber steers especially towards self-awareness and self-confidence, as this lays the foundation for their further life and future.
Which parents can fill out the statement?
Not only parents of children in Kerkrade can fill out the declaration, parents living within a 15 km radius of Kerkrade also have the opportunity to register their 10, 11 or 12-year-old child. Completing the declaration does not oblige parents to anything else, but it does determine the future of full secondary education in Kerkrade.
