Help with healthy and safe growing up

The municipality of Kerkrade wants to help children and young people - and their parents/caregivers - overcome obstacles in growing up to adulthood. Wherever possible, we try to prevent small questions from becoming big problems. This is why we have created an overview of preventive activities for children and youth since 2023. Part of this is a digital counter where anyone can give signals about youth.

Activities for all families
The Youth Prevention Core Team has been working on an overview of activities for healthy, safe and opportunity-filled growing up. We have conveniently collected the activities available in Kerkrade from us and our partners on the Youth Prevention page. If you have tips or would like to add activities, please email your tip or the name of the activity, along with your name, phone number, email address and more information about the activity to jeugdpreventie@kerkrade.nl. Your information will then be reviewed by the core team and possibly added to the directory.

Digital counter for signals
The digital counter is managed by the Youth Prevention Core Team. Do you see or hear things that concern you about children in your area? Then you can use the page above to pass on your signals by sending an email to jeugdpreventie@kerkrade.nl. Of course, we do not do this alone, but in close cooperation with our partners.

Why is youth prevention important?
If we do not help children and young people - and their parents/guardians - in time or show them the way, small questions can grow into big problems. This can have consequences for the child's well-being, health, development and safety, such as school absenteeism, child abuse and psychological or social problems. We want to be there as early as possible to answer questions and help where necessary, so that children and young people remain healthy and happy and can continue to develop well. This is at the forefront of the municipality of Kerkrade's policy.

Moreover, early prevention can ensure that more expensive and intensive youth care is not necessary and remains readily available for children and youth who really need it. In this way, we want to offer youth in Kerkrade a good prospect for the future.
