Help for the elderly, the sick, people with disabilities (Wmo)

What is it?

Can you no longer do everything yourself because of an illness, disability or old age? Then you can report to the municipality. The municipality will look for a solution together with you. Sometimes this means that you try to change your situation yourself. In other cases the municipality will give you specific help.

Assistance is designed to help you continue to do as much as possible for yourself. Consider:

  • do your own housework
  • moving in and around your home
  • moving around your area with a means of transportation
  • normal use of your home
  • meet other people

Would you like help from the municipality? See below how to apply to the municipality.

How does it work?

When you report to the municipality of Kerkrade, a Wmo consultant will contact you to discuss the problem with you. If possible, you will receive an immediate answer to your question or an appropriate solution.

If it is not possible to answer your request for help directly or if further investigation is required, an additional interview will take place. You will discuss with the Wmo-consultant what your problems are and what you can still do yourself. And what you can still do with help from other people. Together you will see if there is a "general provision" that can help you. This is an easy solution that you can use temporarily. If necessary, the municipality will arrange a personal solution for you under the Wmo: a "customized facility".

A customized service may be:

  • domestic help
  • A wheelchair or a modification to your wheelchair
  • collective transportation, a mobility scooter or a modification to your car
  • aids or adaptations in your home
  • guidance
  • day activity
  • shelter
  • assisted living

The municipality can also give you a sum of money. You can then pay for the help you need yourself.

A Wmo facility is subject to a co-payment. You never pay more than the cost price (including maintenance contracts). This is determined and collected by the CAK. Your own contribution in 2024 is a maximum of € 20.60 per month. This depends on your age and living situation. You can find more information at www.hetcak.nl.
