Investment in Kaalheide sports park and investigation of residential care opportunities
The municipality of Kerkrade has signed a letter of intent to work out a redevelopment plan for sports park Kaalheide. The other parties that have signed this letter of intent are BRUIS, Roda JC, Social Development Foundation, HEEMwonen, Achilles-TOP and TCK.
For some time, the municipality - owner of sports park Kaalheide - had plans to upgrade the sports park. For example, the municipality recently decided to invest in the renovation of several sports facilities. In addition, the buildings on sports park Kaalheide are dated. "When foundation Bruis stepped to the municipality with the special initiative for the development of a residential-care function on sports park Kaalheide, it was decided to join hands to investigate the feasibility of all plans as one concept in which it will be possible to reorganize sports park Kaalheide in terms of urban planning," said Alderman Tim Weijers (Spatial Planning) who signed the letter of intent on behalf of the municipality. Alderman Jo Schlangen (Sports) also welcomes this initiative: "This will take into account the long history of sports park Kaalheide. This past will be included in the urban development plan."
The new residential care concept BRUIS aims to combine Health for young people with disabilities with elderly care and the unique environment of the Kaalheide sports park. "Together we take care of each other and make the world a little bit nicer," said Bruis Foundation. This will involve close cooperation with healthcare professionals and sports associations located on or in the immediate vicinity of the sports park.
The sports facilities already in place will also be used. "Through the cooperation with BRUIS, we will become the sports club of the future," said tennis club TCK. A top sports-worthy training and youth accommodation will be realized for Roda JC, where the first team will be able to finish its training sessions in a quiet and protected atmosphere. "In Roda JC's vision of the future, Kaalheide will once again grow into the beating heart of the soccer club, where top sport and social involvement go hand in hand, and reinforce each other," Roda JC said.
It will be a concept where residents, athletes and neighbors can live, work and play sports together with the right Health at their fingertips. "With Social Development more residential and living enjoyment," is the philosophy of the Social Development Foundation. HEEMwonen is a party that may join to take on the operation of (part of) the buildings of this residential care concept. "Together with our partners, we are making a difference when it comes to living together. The redevelopment of the sports park, where we bring young and old together, fits well with this," says Liesbeth van Beek, director of HEEMwonen.
It is expected that by the end of 2021 the urban development plan will be ready and then - if everything is feasible - follow-up steps can be taken.
