Resident survey natural gas-free living: Kerkrade chooses those with the least ability to pay
Municipality of Kerkrade has a big task. By 2050, residents in Kerkrade must be able to live energy-efficiently and without natural gas. In December 2022, we asked our residents to help think about this through a survey. A total of 3044 people completed this survey. We would like to thank you for this.
Starting with homes with low energy labels and people with small grants
Respondents were asked where the municipality should start working on energy-efficient and natural gas-free living first. According to them, the municipality should start work first in neighborhoods with homes with a low energy label, followed by neighborhoods with people who have difficulty making ends meet. Kerkrade is opting for the people with the least financial means.
Kerkrade is increasingly aware of sustainability
It also appears that a sustainability movement is already underway in our municipality. To take further steps, residents are mainly looking for clear information and want more participation in the plans that deal with energy-efficient and natural gas-free living. Over half of the respondents want to make their homes more energy efficient. The main reason given by respondents for making their homes more energy efficient is to reduce energy bills. Homeowners also see this as an opportunity to increase the value of the home. Renters see this as an opportunity to gain greater living comfort.
The results will be used in drafting the Heat 2.0 Transition Vision, the insulation program and in subsequent neighborhood implementation plans. For all results, view the infographic.
