Cabinet presents flood damage scheme for Limburg and North Brabant

On Friday, July 13, the Cabinet approved the flood damage settlement for Limburg and North Brabant to compensate for material damage caused by the floods in July this year.

It covers damage that is uninsurable, unrecoverable and unavoidable. To be eligible for compensation, a person must have suffered damage in the established damage area (PDF)

Governor Johan Remkes: "The disaster last July caused enormous material and immaterial damage. It is important for those affected to be able to recover quickly the damage they have suffered and to know how they will be compensated for -with regard to uninsurable damage-. The regulation on compensation for damages as adopted by the government creates this clarity. In close consultation with the region, a generous scheme has been drawn up within the framework of the Act that does justice to the exceptional nature of this disaster. However, the Act also has limitations which mean that, for example, loss of turnover for entrepreneurs is not covered. The Cabinet recognizes the importance of this point emphasized by the region and has promised to enter into discussions with the region and entrepreneurs' representatives about this."

The Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO) has opened a hotline where individuals, entrepreneurs and other organizations can go for handling their material damage when they want to claim compensation. The RVO implements the scheme. This means that RVO commissions valuations, processes damage forms and decides and pays out applications on behalf of the Minister of Justice and Security.
