Opportunity scheme extended: more time for flood control projects

Do you have a good idea to tackle water flooding in Limburg? Good news: the deadline for applying for funding through the opportunity scheme has been extended through Dec. 15, 2025.

What is the opportunity scheme?

The Opportunity Scheme is a subsidy scheme of the program Water Safety and Space Limburg (WRL) and helps to better protect Limburg from flooding. The scheme supports projects that can be implemented quickly, contribute effectively to reducing flooding and do not have a negative impact on other locations. Consider measures such as water retention, temporary storage or controlled discharge.

More room for applications

The original closing date has been moved from July 1 to December 15, 2025 to allow more room for promising initiatives. Grant ceilings by project type have also been abolished, so the overall budget can now be distributed more flexibly based on applications submitted.

Who can apply for a grant?

Anyone with a suitable project can apply for a subsidy: from (government) organizations to private individuals. For WRL partners, they can only apply for grants for measures that fall outside their regular duties.

Apply for a grant?

Applications will be processed in order of receipt as long as there is budget.
