Kerkrade honors veterans with White Carnation display

With the raising of the Veterans flag at the Council House and the opening of a White Carnation Garden in the City Park, Kerkrade marked National Veterans Day last Saturday, June 26.
The construction of the White Carnation Bed is an initiative of the Kerkrade Town Council that was carried out in cooperation with the Stichting Geüniformeerden Centrum Parkstad (GOC), the Orange Association Kerkrade and the Orange Committee Eygelshoven. The flowerbed has been given a prominent place in the Town Park and features an information board.
Alderman Tim Weijers (public space & real estate): "In this way, Kerkrade is also showing respect and appreciation to all veterans and we are responding appropriately to the call of the National Committee for Veterans Day. The White Carnation is a nice addition to the housing at Bear Forest and to our local Veterans Day as the municipality has facilitated both for several years."
The white carnation is the symbol of Dutch veterans, military personnel who have served under war conditions or participated in peacekeeping missions.
