Kerkrade helps residents make home more sustainable

The municipality of Kerkrade wants to help residents even more to make their homes more sustainable. This is why Kerkrade is launching an "Energy and Climate Fund". Residents can obtain a loan for measures that save energy or help adapt to our changing climate.

These include solar panels or disconnecting rainwater. The new fund is part of several measures to encourage residents to take action to make their homes more sustainable. Residents who need advice or assistance can visit the WoonWijzerWinkel in Kerkrade.

Alderman René van Drunen (Sustainability): "If everything goes according to plan and the council votes in July, the fund will open from September 15, 2022. Individuals, associations and entrepreneurs (with a home/property owned) are eligible for the fund. The financial situation of the participant will not be tested. This allows those with 'a small purse' to participate in the scheme as well."

What does the fund look like?

The fund contains 2 million euros. The loan will be repaid in up to 15 years. The interest rate is 2%. Per home, 35,000 euros can be borrowed. The minimum loan amount is 1,000 euros. In addition, there are other advantages to this scheme. For example, there is no maximum age limit, there is no BKR test and you are allowed to DIY. Should the loan pot run out, the council will be asked for more money.

We will be back in August with more information about the fund and exactly what you need to do to qualify. Keep an eye on our channels for this.

Sustainable Kerkrade

Under the banner of Sustainable Kerkrade, the municipality, together with the City Region of Parkstad Limburg, has been carrying out projects and work to make the town more sustainable for years. A good example is the Parkstad solar panel project.
