Kerkrade raises rainbow flag
Freedom. That is one of the most important values we have here in the Netherlands. Indeed, it is a human right. Freedom of belief, freedom of speech, and the freedom to be who you are, regardless of your skin color, sexuality or gender identity.
In Hungary, this right was curtailed last Tuesday, June 15, by a new law. This law prohibits informing young people about homosexuality and changing sex. Such a law does not fit our way of life and does not fit within the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as we have defined it together.
That is why the rainbow flag is flying at the Kerkrade town hall this weekend, in solidarity with the lgbtqia+ community.
Mayor Dassen - Housen: "There is no place for discrimination or intolerance in our municipality. We are proud of all our residents who are part of the lgbtqia+ community. Or, as we say in Kerkrade: lived is lived!".
