Kerkrade raises 'Orange the World' flag on International Day Against Violence Against Women

Municipality of Kerkrade joins the international campaign against violence against women: Orange the World. Therefore, from November 25 to December 10, the "Orange the World" flag will fly at the Town Hall.

Worldwide, one in three women experience violence. In the Netherlands, this is as high as 45% of women and girls. To draw attention to this, the United Nations has designated November 25 as the International Day against Violence against Women. The Orange the World campaign, in which more than a hundred countries are participating, kicks off on this day and will end on December 10. These are the "Sixteen Days of Action Against Violence Against Women.

Petra Dassen: "Unfortunately, efforts on an international, national and local level are still badly needed. Figures show that violence against women is still a daily occurrence and destroys lives. In Kerkrade, we are showing our support for the necessary fight against this violence by flying the flag at the Town Hall."

I'm becoming a #co-founder. You too?

In 2021, the theme of the campaign in the Netherlands is "prevention. Everyone can help prevent violence. The emphasis in addressing violence is often on signaling, reporting and providing assistance. These things are crucial, but we also need to invest more in preventing violence by tackling it at its roots. Every individual, professional or organization can contribute to that!

"For example, you can help break the taboo, help when you see something happening in your community and help bring attention to violence against women and girls."

Therefore, during the Orange the World campaign in 2021, we as a municipality would like to invite everyone to become part of the solution and declare themselves #co-defenders in the fight against violence.
