Kerkrade receives over €2.1 million from the Housing Stimulus Fund for projects on Einderstraat and Van Goghplein

The municipality of Kerkrade has received a contribution of €2,103,604 from the seventh tranche of the government's Housing Stimulus Package. This financial boost will enable the housing projects on Einderstraat and Vincent van Goghplein to be accelerated and actually realized.

Alexander Geers (Housing): "This subsidy will enable us to realize two more attractive housing projects. On Einderstraat, we are transforming retail space into high-quality, lifetime homes. This allows us to contribute directly to the livability of the city center. The development of the former primary school on Vincent van Goghplein in Haanrade into both owner-occupied and rental apartments will also generate additional investment in the neighborhood and create a healthy mix of new-build and resale properties."

Joint application within Parkstad

The contribution is part of a joint application by the municipalities of Kerkrade, Brunssum, and Simpelveld within the Parkstad Limburg urban region. By combining housing projects, the application met the strict criteria of the Housing Incentive Scheme, including the construction of at least 200 affordable new homes.

The approval by the Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning underscores the importance that the government attaches to accelerating housing construction in Parkstad. For Kerkrade, this means that two important new construction projects can now be carried out.

Ender Street

The area development on Einderstraat is an important part of the vision and action plan for the city center and is in line with the Impulse Approach for Shopping Areas. In this approach, surplus retail space will be removed and converted into high-quality, lifetime homes. This will contribute significantly to the livability and vitality of the city center.

Vincent van Gogh Square

At Vincent van Goghplein, the former primary school is being transformed into residential apartments for both the owner-occupied and rental markets. This development will create a healthy mix of housing types and stimulate mobility within the neighborhood. The project is therefore well aligned with the demand in the housing market.

The contribution from the Housing Stimulus Program ensures that both repurposing projects can be accelerated and made feasible.
