Kerkrade is taking the next step toward modern and forward-looking education
Renovation of the Martin Buber School Begins
The Martin Buber School will move to a building on VIE Boulevard in downtown Kerkrade in the summer of 2027. Today marked the festive kickoff of the renovation and remodeling work on this new school building. Over the coming period, the building will be completely renovated and modernized so that it can eventually accommodate hundreds of students from Kerkrade and the surrounding region. Until then, Het Martin Buber will remain at its current location on Marktstraat.
A complete makeover for a fresh start
Work has already begun and consists of demolition and construction work to adapt the building to its new layout and functions. The existing building will undergo a complete transformation with new layouts designed to meet the needs of modern secondary education. Nine apartments are also planned for thefirst throughfifth floors.
Space for 600 students at the new location
The renovated building will serve as the main campus for Het Martin Buber. It will eventually be able to accommodate approximately 600 students. Together with other educational facilities and stops throughout the city, the school is designed to serve a total of approximately 900 students.
Scheduled to open for the 2027–2028 school year
If everything goes according to plan, students and staff will begin using the renovated building at the start of the 2027–2028 school year. This will give Kerkrade a modern, sustainable, and inspiring learning environment that is ready for the future.
