Kerkrade puts full effort into getting voters to the polls

The municipality of Kerkrade is fully committed to getting as many of the town's voters to the polls on March 14, 15 and 16.

Mayor Petra Dassen: "For this municipal election we are unpacking more than ever before. We want to inform our residents as well as possible and persuade them to vote. Their vote counts! Voting is a right and I even consider it a privilege. We want to get to the midpoint with our turnout numbers."

What do we do like this in Kerkrade:

Campaign video

Central to our communication is the red pencil film, based on a well-known Kerkrade film. Actor René Held plays the lead role as in the Stehtisch film and goes through the city with his red pencil. At the end, he ends up in the HuB.kerkrade (library and theater) where he is told by the mayor that he is too early to vote. The red pencil movie is also shown on the big cinema screen before the election. Nice detail: René is a celebrity in Kerkrade and is recognized everywhere.

Special voting locations

Especially for this municipal election, voters in Kerkrade can also go to vote in two very special voting locations: the Roda JC stadium and the GaiaZOO zoo. This is the first time in the Netherlands that voting is possible in a zoo. Voters will be treated to a fun program of activities aimed at children. For example, the mascot will be present at Roda and Roda will hold a public training session at the stadium. People who vote at GaiaZOO will be allowed to enter the park for free with their families afterwards. For children there will be coloring sheets and a scavenger hunt. For the entire program see www.kerkrade.nl/verkiezingen

Youth Campaign

Youth are also being considered. All new voters will receive a letter from the mayor. There is also a campaign aimed at young people aged 18 to 28. With contemporary statements aimed at the youth in Kerkrade, the municipality is trying to get them excited about voting. Via social media, young people are directed to the page where they can go through the propositions, but also immediately find out which party in Kerkrade fits them.

Tour of schools

To explain and draw attention to the municipal elections, the mayor will visit seven elementary schools. Here she will give a guest lesson. She will also visit VMBO Holz.

Movie Parties

All parties participating in Kerkrade will have a chance to present themselves to Kerkrade voters in two videos. The first is an introductory video, while the second presents the parties in more detail.

Election Newspaper

During the week of February 28 to March 6, the election newspaper was delivered to all households in town. This contained a foreword by the mayor and general information about voting in Kerkrade. In addition, the participating political parties each received a page to tell their election story. ii

Other actions

In addition to the above actions, we also have:

  • Attention on channels Beleef Kerkrade: including mayor in Beleef Kerkrade TV (was broadcast on March 6)
  • RTV Parkstad election debate. This will be broadcast in this week's carousel.
  • Election signs in the city (trotters)
  • During election night, voters will be informed of the results live via Facebook at several points.

Of course, for the campaign we also use our usual channels such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, city page City News etc. The website: www.kerkrade.nl/verkiezingen is the medium where all information can be found together.
