Handy homes in Pannesheide monastery wing

Steenvlinder and the municipality of Kerkrade today signed the purchase agreement for the Pannesheide monastery wing. In this monumental building will be realized. The new homes and the refurbishment of the surrounding public outdoor space should contribute to a pleasant living environment. The unveiling of a butterfly house by Alderman Tim Weijers this afternoon symbolizes the beginning of a new era in the Kerkrade neighborhood of Bleijerheide.

"We are delighted to partner with Steenvlinder to give this beautiful landmark building a new purpose. A destination that honors the past and in which we can literally build a sustainable future together with the residents," said Alderman Tim Weijers (Spatial Planning, Housing & Real Estate).

Hans Sparreboom, co-owner Steenvlinder: "We hereby label a fine cooperation, with the municipality and with the neighborhood. To all Kerkrade residents and the surrounding area the call: think along and join us soon! Let's seize the opportunity to turn something old into something that can last another century in a pleasant and green way."

DIY apartments in the monastery wing

As a National Monument, the original appearance of the building will be preserved as much as possible. There will be 20 loft apartments in the building. In addition to rent-to-buy semi-detached houses, Steenvlinder also intends to realize rent-to-buy semi-detached houses in the monastery. Through its own foundation, Steenvlinder INC, people who currently can not buy a house still have the opportunity to create their own home. More information about this possibility can be found at www.steenvlinderinc.nl

The neighborhood think along

The municipality of Kerkrade and Steenvlinder consider it important to involve the neighborhood and future residents in the development. At Vlinderheide, residents can participate in the design and layout of a communal park. This is open to the entire neighborhood. Interested parties can register via the website: www.vlinderheide.nl.
A first information meeting will be organized in September.

Start of work

The first demolition work is expected to begin in late 2022. The remaining work to deliver the building "job-ready" to buyers and/or tenants will begin in mid-2023.
